So what is this Gaya Street Sunday Market that got everyone hyped up? It’s a once-a-week open market that only opens on, obviously, Sundays. It’s somewhat like a “pasar malam” but with more to offer, and it’s open only during the daytime.

 

Gaya Street Sunday Market offers all kinds of gems for you to buy. You can get local food, local fruits, artisanal products, and even pets! The streets are closed off to traffic to make way for the stalls to set up. It’s open from as early as 6:30 am and the stalls close at 1 pm when the sun gets too hot.

Along the Sunday Market in Gaya Street, there are also local restaurants that have been around for decades. Make a pit stop and try out the famous delicacies of Sabah such as the Laksa from Kedai Kopi Yee Fung, Hainanese chicken rice from 5 Star, Sabah Chilli pan mee, roti kahwin, bak kut teh and many more!

There are also cafes along the street for you to take a break and just have a cuppa while you cool yourself down with the air conditioner. If you’ve never tried coffee with cheese, go on and try it out at Green Mug Coffee. If you’re not that adventurous and would like to just stick to your normal cup of joe, just head over to the next street called Australia Lane where you’d be spoiled for choices. It is a whole lane of cafes, bubble tea, and ice cream stores! Bound to keep you awake and cool from the scorching hot sun.
