If you work remotely or work from home, you get bored and dull after a while. You need to get some fresh air, interact with people, get some coffee and of course some food as well. Working independently gives you the flexibility to choose your daily “office” and sometimes, you just want a comfortable place yet interesting enough to give you the inspiration to make you work.
Of course, you can park yourself in a Starbucks or a Coffee Bean and work there the whole day, but you might want to spice it up a little and look for somewhere new. We’re providing you with more cafe choices where you can hog their wi-fi and work.
Ampersand Specialty Coffee & Co-workplace
Ampersand has this rustic, lofty interior that kind of works with everything. The ceilings are high enough to build a somewhat second floor in this cafe.
The view from the “mezzanine” floor. You get to watch the baristas making your coffee and work their charm on the latte art. It is quite therapeutic to actually watch them work. Great for when you need a break from working hard.
You know what they say, green is good for the eyes. And this matcha latte will help with your strained eyes from staring too long at the laptop.
You might overlook Ampersand Cafe because of its low-key exterior. So make sure you keep your eyes on the lookout when looking for this cafe.

The B Side Cafe
Picture taken from their Instagram
The B Side is one of the first few cafes who started the cafe scene in KK which started operating in 2014. It is almost marking its 4th anniversary this coming August.
Its interior is what I would describe as industrial minimalist. It has tiles, bricks, and cement interior paired with wood-ish furniture.

The B side has an outdoor seating if you’d like to get some sun and fresh air, or even just to take a quick cigarette break.

Every month, B Side will have a different theme featuring on its wall. It’s usually arts and crafts by local Sabahan artisans. It is quite interesting to check these out, giving you something new to look at every time you visit.
And oh, they have high-speed internet too!

Every corner of this cafe just screams Insta-worthy! They have an interesting selection of food as well, so you can just park yourself here from morning till evening, try out their food and work at the same time. Lots of natural sunlight, in case you need a dose of your vitamin D.

Joe Sun Food & Coffee
Picture taken from their Instagram
There’s just something about white and green. White interior and furniture with a hint of green plants. Here’s another cafe that has tons of natural sunlight that hits the right spot of the cafe, enhancing the quality of your food pictures.
Operating since April 2016, Joe Sun Cafe has been serving us with fusion foods, with combinations of food you’ll never think of.

Enjoy a cup of coffee and if you feeling the munchies, order off their menu! They have snacks menu such as tripe chips (yep, tripe), bruschetta, salads, and frittatas.

Brownie points, Joe Sun Cafe has recently swapped from plastic straws to bamboo straws. So don’t be alarmed when your drink does not come with a straw, and if you request for one, you’ll be served with a bamboo straw. However, those bamboo straws are not souvenirs for you to keep!

Nook Cafe
Picture taken from their Instagram
Recently moved to a new location, Nook Cafe is now a lot bigger than its initial outlet. Nook has moved not very far from its first location, it’s just a block away from it. And it’s also just down the road after Woo! Cafe as well! I hear someone say “CAFE HOPPING TIME!”.

The new Nook is a lot more spacious, without losing its original characteristics. They still have their signature rattan chairs and wooden tables.

Every corner of this cafe looks like an entirely different place!

At the back of the cafe is actually an open-air space filled with fairy lights, which looks really dreamy at night.
Oh and Nook is also one of the first cafes to use bamboo straws too!

They are an advocate of no plastic usage and if you bring your own cups, your get an RM1 discount on your food and drink!

Dock In Cafe
This relatively new cafe is actually an entity of its hostel called Dock In Hostel. Dock In Hostel is rather popular amongst tourists and backpackers who travel in big groups. Just downstairs of its hostel is where the cafe is. It also serves as its breakfast place for its guests but it is also open to the public.
The interior is very industrial but yet so cozy to just sit all day with a book, or in this case, your laptop or work stuff. You can just sit and stare at the cars zooming away and just watch the sun turn from blue to pink, the prominent sunset in Kota Kinabalu.
