Nuggets are in almost every fast food restaurant’s menu and the most ordered food item as well.

Nuggets are usually made of ground chicken meat, coated in a batter that will be molded into random shapes and then deep fried or baked.

So who invented this oh-so-delicious comfort food?

The answer is Robert C. Baker.

When did he invent this?

Back in the 1950s.

And guess what, it wasn’t named as nuggets in the beginning. Robert C. Baker and his associates called them “Chicken Crispie”.

It was then McDonald’s started selling McNuggets and the world started lovin’ it. Ba da baa baa baaa.

However, not all nuggets are the same. I’m sure you have a favorite fast food nugget and would disagree when someone says that all nuggets are the same. Because I personally disagree with that.

Let’s compare these few nuggets from different fast food chains:

Ahh, the ever so loved McDonald’s chicken McNuggets. McDonald’s nuggets can be easily identified. Its appearance is usually in a more roundish shape. The coating is usually golden brownish and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.

The McNuggets is always a good go-to nugget when you’re feeling hungry but not too hungry. And what’s best is, McNuggets come in 20 pieces and it’s good for sharing. We heard that they might supersize it to 50 pieces McNuggets! Imagine binging on these while you binge watch your favorite Netflix shows.

You can always tell if it’s a KFC nugget just by the looks of it. It does not have a golden brown coating like the McNuggets. We would say that it looks rather pale for a nugget. But never judge a book by its cover. Its meat is tender and very well seasoned, given that the coating is not as crispy as the other nuggets. Maybe there are people who prefer soft nuggets over crispy nuggets. Regardless, it is still tasty. KFC nuggets come in two sizes- 6 pieces and 9 pieces. It’s not as large portion as McNuggets, but it’s a good size for a meal.

Well well well, what do we have here. Wendy’s nuggets seem to have the darkest color coating amongst the other nuggets. Its coating is more brownish, almost as dark as a burnt nugget. It was our first time trying Wendy’s nuggets as Wendy’s has just arrived in Kota Kinabalu a few months ago. At first, before we tried our taste on these nuggets, we were doubtful and expecting the nuggets to taste a little burnt, judging from its coating. When we finally braved through and took a bite. Boy, were we wrong to judge them nuggets. It’s similar to the McNuggets but Wendy’s nuggets are even crispier and denser than the McNuggets. Wendy’s nuggets come only in one size, which is a 10 piece nuggets.

Borenos KK

Borenos is a local, only in Kota Kinabalu fried chicken restaurant where you get your fried chicken cravings fixed. The taste and texture is actually similar to McDonald’s nuggets so it’s just like a mini chicken patty.

Borenos nuggets come in 3 sizes- 6 pieces, 10 pieces and 21 pieces. So far this is the biggest nuggets quantity amongst all, unless McDonald’s is really introducing the 50 pieces nuggets soon.

What other nuggets do you like and why? Let us know and we’ll add on to this list!
