We’re two weeks away from the Chinese Lunar Year! It is the Year of the Dog, it will be a “wang-derful” year ahead.
If you are superstitious and believe in Feng Shui, and have no clue what manicure designs you want to show off to your friends and family when you go “bai nian”, let us help you! Let’s incorporate the lucky colors of your zodiac sign into your stylish nails.
Year of the Rat
Lucky colors: Yellow, Gray

Here’s a gray base with some yellow spots that also are an abstract drawing of some floral, which you can pull it off by saying it’s cherry blossom.

This one. Look at how simple yet so classy this looks. MATTE NAILS ARE SO CHIC! The gold tips can be replaced with yellow if you’d like that, but hey, gold is also similar to yellow isn’t it?
Year of the Ox
Lucky colors- Red, Orange, Yellow, Gray

This is the reverse of the above manicure design, and yes you can say I’m obsessed with matte nails, but you have to agree, it is so gorgeous!
Now, a lot of you think that you have to have fair skin to pull off bright colors, but that’s not entirely true. Look at this orange on a tanned skin! It just pops! Who says orange is unappealing?

If that was a bit too simple for you, go for a gradient style that has both your lucky colors- yellow and orange!
Here’s a combination of 3 of your lucky colors of 2018. It’s really simple but very fun looking at the same time.
Year of the Tiger
Lucky colors- green, blue, black
If you think black is for the emo kids, c’mon, it’s 2018, emo kids don’t exist anymore, do they? Add a dash of green and blue glitter on black nails and you get this mermaid-ish design.

If you’re afraid that your mom or mother in law would nag you for wearing black on Chinese New Year, this bling design will blind their eyes and seal their mouths for a while. And if they are still nagging you, threaten them by telling them you can puncture them with your sharp nails. Just kidding, love your parents, kids.

Say no more. Dark green marble nails. Grr-amourous!
Year of the Rabbit, Horse,Pig & Goat
Lucky colors- Yellow, brown

Now, now. Who would have thought, brown, the dullest color, can look so good! Have different shades of brown on your nails to give it character. And need I repeat? Matte.

A little ombre brown with some art details on one of your fingers is simple yet, it is not that simple. Get your manicurist to do an nail art that brings a little Chinese New Year spirit to your nails.

If your personality is fun, bubbly and outgoing, this is for you. Yellow with a doggy nail art- both your lucky color AND the artwork of the zodiac year. Who doesn’t love having a puppy in their hands?
Year of the Dragon
Lucky colors- blue, black, white, gold

I personally love marble designs, especially white marble. The black and gold trimming actually adds oomph to this design.

This is one of my favorites. This blue can pass off as black in some lighting but then your mom/mother in law can’t nag, because you can tell them “Actually, it’s blue.” *hair flip* The triangle shapes, is what I believe to be cut out foil or something, whatever it is, it’s so cool because it gives this 3D effect on your nails.
Year of the Snake & Monkey
Lucky colors- Red, orange

I’ve shared some red and orange nail designs earlier on the Year of the Ox, but here’s some really cute and festive designs you can try to ask your manicurist to do. Not only you’ll look adorable, you get to test your manicurist’s talent as well. Just kidding.

Here’s another super cute super festive design. It literally has oranges on your nails. Again, test your manicurist’s level of skill.
Year of the Rooster
Lucky colors- Red, orange, yellow, gray
Gray base with red and orange flowers. Very girly and festive at the same time.
Look at all the cherry blossoms and the mountains in the background! This is literally a painting on your nails.
Year of the Dog
Lucky colors- Green, red, orange

Look cool and a little futuristic with this design. Very Matrix-looking.

Once again. Green marble. This green does not look Christmassy but it gives you a very zen feeling just staring at it.

Add a touch of gold to your marble nails, as a replacement for your lucky color orange.
So there you go, a few of my recommendations for nail designs according to your lucky colors for the year. With these gorgeous nails, you’ll be able to show them off when you’re receiving or giving out ang paos. These nails will be a great conversation starter with those relatives you have not seen for a really long time. Break the ice, but don’t break them nails.
